About Us

Community Treasure is a Birmingham-based movement of people committed to Community Development as a way of building community from the grassroots.

We help neighbourhoods discover, connect, and celebrate the strengths already present in local people and places. We create opportunities for community builders to meet, learn from each other, and grow what is possible together across Birmingham.

Our Approach

We build on the strengths in people and places. We work strengths-first. We start with gifts, relationships, and local assets, then connect and mobilise them to build a good life together.

The way we bring people together matters. We aim to convene in a relational, equalising way that removes labels and titles, so people can arrive as human first and do their best thinking together.

You will see this in our Movement of Community Builders gatherings, learning circles, and training. Storytelling is central: once a story is told, it cannot be unheard.

Our Story

Community Treasure grew out of a desire to notice and celebrate the unseen strengths already present in Birmingham neighbourhoods and to connect the people who are making change possible. Thrive Together Birmingham hosts and develops this work alongside BVSC through the Community Development Practice Hub.

These films give a feel for our work: travelling and learning together, listening to real stories, and noticing what changes when people feel connected.
